Keeping one eye on the ground

Architecture, landscape and garden are one

March 9th is the birthday of renowned architect and landscape architect, Luis Barragan, born in 1902 in Guadalajara, Mexico. We are fans of his bold, clean use of lines, scale and color as well as his emphasis of the local vernacular. There is no business nor excess in his gardens. We also admire his integration of landscape with building. As he put it, "I don't divide architecture, landscape and gardening; to me they are one." You can see this in the photo where the background foliage is so essential to the beauty of the composition.
