Keeping one eye on the ground

Today is Love A Tree Day!

Lovely Loquats – try one!

Lovely Loquats – try one!

Today, May 16th, is Love A Tree Day.  It seems that we should love trees every day, but this occasion, if nothing else, seems a good reminder to do so.   What blessings trees are and how sad landscapes are without them!  Celebrate by sitting in the shade and talking to one, planting one (or more!,) climbing one, forest bathing, making a tree swing or hanging a hammock, hanging a bird feeder in a tree...  For a list of organizations that support trees, see http://spiritoftrees.org/organizations.

A few particularly striking trees we've seen this season are California Buckeye, Loquat, Chinese Fringe Tree, the still blooming apples. What’s not to love?

A few books about trees that we found particularly delightful:

  • The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben

  • A Tree is Nice, Janice May Udry

  • The Baron in the Trees, Italo Calvino

  • Paulus and the Acorn Men, Jean Dulieu
